My passion for Bataan historiography took a strong impetus in 1989 when the thrust of the De La Salle University History Department was local history. My M.A. thesis which was on the participation of the province in the twin revolutions of 1896 and 1898 was a product of that sustained interest in the history of the province. With added data and shifts in perspectives, a fraction of that thesis was elaborated and expanded in this book as Chapters 14, 15 and16. Instead of citing and quoting some sources in that thesis,I have decided to cite them in full for the convenience of the readers. Some of the chapters in this book were also published before as articles in journals or read in historical for an although they are presented here with added sources and fresh insights. -- Preface
