500 _aLiving with Music, Art, PE, and Health (MAPEH) is a new high school series for Grades7-10. This Kto12 compliant series was developed in accordance with the objectives and thrusts of the the Department of Education's new basic education program, which hopes to holistically develop learners with 21st century skills. Thus, content, assessment, activities, approaches, and methodologies used in this series were carefully selected to address the demands and the challenges posed by the new curriculum. The authors refer to the principles of teaching and learning as the underpinning guide in the development of each lesson. However, in the organization of contents, the series follows the 4 A's framework, which stands for Activity, Analysis, Abstraction, and Application. This instructional approach has been proven to be effective as evidenced by the results of learners' performance. It endeavors to create among learners better understanding through application of learning to real life situations, thereby allowing better appreciation of the irrelevance in their lives. Each lesson starts with an activity called WARMING UP which experiences of the learner. It is basically knowing where the learners are. This part provides an opportunity to reflect on learners prior and current understanding of the lesson. The lesson discussion presents important concepts, principles, and other information students need to know about the topic at hand. ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS and CRITICAL IDEAS accompany each important topic being introduced, the better for students to process the information as they are delivered to them. MAKING MEANING helps not only to expand students' vocabulary but also reinforce comprehension of the lesson. One of the most essential elements of this book is the assessment of learning. In CHECKING LEARNING, there are varied assessment tools to measure the progress of the child including pen-and-paper type tests and teacher-guided classroom activities, while DEEPENING UNDERSTANDING allows authentic assessment to take place via exploratory activities. WRAPPING UP summarizes the most important points in the lesson, while LOOKING BACK is a self-assessment tool that allows students to find out what they have accomplished after each lesson. An important part of the lesson ender is a reflection activity-variedly called MUSICAL NOTES, ART JOURNAL, FITNESS LOG, and HEALTH CHECK depending on the subject at hand-in which students talk about their experiences while undertaking the different activities and the real-life situations in which they are able to apply what they learned in the lesson.
