| 520 | _aJigsaw City showcases our work in shaping new urban environments in Asia, from Hong Kong's new towns to India's corridor of future growth. This work is diverse, varied and complex, bringing together the expertise across the built environment professions - of architects and engineers, geotechnical and environmental specialists, landscape architects, urban planners and economists. The work illustrated here demonstrated that the most successful new towns and cities come from a smart combination of governance, ambitious scale, transportation and density. Starting from scratch, new towns and cities need strong political will and long-term thinking from the outset. They need to be big enough to sustain a mixture of uses, highly connected to existing transport systems and planned to encourage dense, compact urban living. Together, these ingredients can help a transforming region mitigate the pressures of urbanization. | ||
