520 _aAMONG HIS MANY LASTING LEGACIES, THE UNIVERSITY'S GENERAL Education Program is certainly one which we most identify with the late President Sinco. His commitment to liberal education was unwavering and he made it the hallmark of his administration. The need for a truly balanced education at the University is obvious today as it was during Sinco's time, and it will continue to be important for as long as the University accepts its primary task of "meeting the human resource development needs of the country." Sinco's ideas were relevant then as they are today, and will continue to be in the future. This paper looks at some fundamental concepts relating to Presi- dent Sinco's notion of liberal education, and attempts to elaborate on these in terms of their implications and ramifications, in particular their relevance in the development of professionals who will serve specific needs of society.
