This study conducted a preliminary survey of moth species within the Bayawan Nature Reserve in Negros Oriental, Philippines, to assess diversity and distribution across varied habitats.The objectives were to identify moth species compositions across five distinct habitats (grassland, riparian, coconut plantation, anthropogenic, and closed canopy) and to evaluate whether habitat characteristics influencemoth distribution. Data collection involved setting up light traps from 6:30 PM to 8:30PM, with temperature, humidity, and vegetation data recorded at 30-minute intervals.Results showed no significantdifference in species richness across sites (p> 0.05),although sites varied in moth distribution patterns. Sites 4 (anthropogenic) and 5 (closedcanopy) exhibited the highest species diversity, indicating these habitats may support richermoth populations due to distinct environmental characteristics. Chi-square analysis alsorevealed no significant relationship between environmental parameters (temperature,humidity, canopy cover, and vegetation) and moth species richness, suggesting otherecological factors could play a role in moth habitat preferences.
