Foreword -- Introduction -- Remaining, seized, matter -- Soiling history -- Works
Summary: Latifa Echakhch was born in 1974 in El Khnansa, Morocco, arrived in France at the age of three, and now lives in Switzerland. In barely a decade she has managed to find a place in the international art scene as one of the most important artists of her generation. What makes her oeuvre so significant is above all the remarkable conceptual and formal coherence of her work, the sobriety of her vocabulary, the simplicity of her gestures, and, at the same time, the modesty of the materials and the universality of the elements that she uses. Her research, which explores both private and public spheres and encompasses different cultures, identities, and languages, also makes her an especially distinctive figure by virtue of its eminently contemporary nature. -- Foreword
