"This paper examined the extent of parental involvement of private and public elementary schools. It focused on the 3 private schools and 3 public elementary schools of Dumaguete City for SY 2019-2020 utilizing the descriptive, comparative, and correlational methods of research. The extent of parental involvement was measured in terms of the following factors a) parenting, b) communicating, c) volunteering, d) learning at home, and e) decision making. The study used a researcher-made questionnaire divided into two parts, namely: 1) profile of the students, and 2) extent of parental involvement. It revealed that there us a very high extent of parenting, communicating, volunteering, learning at home and decision making as respectively assessed by parents coming from private school while parents coming from public elementary schools got moderate extent in the five factors of parental involvement. There were no significant relationship between parental involvement and academic performance of pupils coming from the private schools as all the value of rs fall in the "moderate relationship" categories with an overall rating of 0.033 and p-values greater than the 0.05 level of significance. There were also significant and strong relationship between parental involvement and academic performance of pupils coming from public schools rs fall in the "strong relationship" categories with an overall rating of 0.683 and computed p-values less than the 0.05 level of significance. It concluded that there was a significant difference between the mean academic performance of the pupils coming from private and public schools. It was found out that pupils from private schools perform better than those in public schools." --Abtsract
