General note GROWING IN CHARACTER: A Senior High School Textbook on Personal Development (Second Edition) aims to awaken the students' increasing awareness of themselves in this responsible decisions concerning their course, work, and vocation in life.<br/>Applying the experiential learning approach, this book guides the students in exploring the different aspects of their development by means of introspection, reflection, sharing of experiences, and involvement in discussions about the various concepts and theories in psychology.<br/>The lessons are presented in two chapters.<br/>Chapter I facilitates the students' personal assessment of themselves and the challenges that they encounter during the teenage period by encouraging them to engage in active group discussions and activities.<br/>It also provides insights on how to handle stress, manage time, learn well, and improve one's own weaknesses.<br/>Chapter II explores personal relationships in a spiral manner, starting from the within their spiritual selves.<br/>Likewise, it provides an overview of the different facets of the students' career development, reflection of their own personal development.<br/>Using the values they have developed during their pre-teenage period and the standards that personal development and grow to become responsible adults within their families and in their society.<br/>All of us dream to become self-fulfilled individuals, good members of our families, effective members of our communities, and productive citizens of our country and the world.<br/>The Philippine education system and our other institutions help us become Makadiyos, Makatao, Makabayan, and Makakalikasan by developing our talents, our value systems, and our potentials so that we can think critically, make intelligent decisions, show honesty and compassion, act responsibly, promote fairness and justice at all times, and nurture faith in our hearts.<br/>In order to achieve these goals for ourselves, for our families, for our communities, for our country, and for the world, we need to reflect carefully on the many situations that confront us, strive hard to develop the values that will make us the persons that we want to be, and stand by the principles that we uphold.<br/>The lessons that are presented in this book aim to guide the young adolescents as they encounter different situations in their lives, lead them to follow slow but careful steps in making decisions or in solving real-life problems, and encourage them to shoulder responsibilities that confront them. This book also tackles peer relationships, relationship with family members and with other people in society, and ways by which the youth can promote harmonious relationships with those with whom they interact, including the total environment where they live. In all these situations, the ultimate goal is to mold the youth to become the persons who they dream to be.<br/>It is hoped that the students will find this textbook truly enriching, as well as inspiring, and of great help in leading them to achieve their goals in life.
