Abstract<br/><br/>The study aimed to determine the awareness and compliance of contractors and field<br/>workers regarding Occupational Safety and Health Programs in the DPWH 1st District<br/>Engineering Office in Negros Oriental. The respondents were eight (8) contractors and<br/>fifty-six (56) field workers from randomly selected contractors with an active contract<br/>with the Negros Oriental 1st District Engineering Office. The study employed a<br/>descriptive-correlational research design as it assessed the extent of the field workers’<br/>awareness of and compliance with OSH Programs and investigated the relationship<br/>between two variables, namely: (a) the extent of the field workers’ awareness of and<br/>compliance with OSH Programs and (b) OSH compliance and accident rates on the<br/>construction site. The researcher utilized a validated questionnaire and applied the<br/>percentage, weighted mean, and Spearman’s Rank Order Correlation as the tools for<br/>treating the data. The results revealed that the extent of the respondents’ awareness of<br/>and compliance with OSH Programs varied from "high" to "very high" in the following<br/>areas: (a) construction safety and health programs for employees, (b) formal site health<br/>and safety inspections, (c) factors contributing to health hazards on construction sites,<br/>(d) provision of personal protective equipment, and (e) safety measures in the<br/>workplace. However, the data were insufficient to conclude a significant relationship<br/>between the extent of the workers’ compliance with OSH Programs and the accident<br/>rates on the site.<br/>Keywords: awareness, compliance, occupational safety and health program (OSHP) |
