Abstract, Summary, etc. ABSTRACT<br/>In the field of nursing, patients and nurses involve a lot of time spent interacting with<br/>each other and it is, most times, unavoidable to establish a relationship. Oftentimes, a bond is<br/>created between them. What, then, would happen if a terminally ill patient suddenly passed<br/>away during his nurse's care? How would it affect the nurse? How would it affect the not-so-<br/>experienced student nurse? Does it have an impact on him? Will it affect his performance in his<br/>duty? Because of these thoughts, the researchers developed a study on the lived experience of<br/>junior and senior student nurses in Foundation University School year 2008-2009 who<br/>experienced caring for critically ill patients that eventually died during their<br/>The Theory of Human Becoming by Rosemarie Parse and Phenomenology by Edmund<br/>Husserl are the bases for the study's framework. The former states that humans<br/>open,<br/>mutual, and in constant interaction with the environment, while the latter believes that lived<br/>experience gives meaning to each person's perception of a particular phenomenon.<br/>Our findings indentified the following relevant themes: (1) fear, (2) shock, (3)<br/>acceptance, (4) guilt, (5) realization, (6) sympathy, (7) challenge, (8) inadequacy, (9)<br/>indífference, and (10) happiness. These themes were determined after having an interpretative<br/>breakdown of the study participant's statements.
