| Abstract | Abstract<br/>The study aimed to assess how audio-assisted guided imagery using storytelling<br/>could influence the anxiety levels of male children, aged 7 to 12, who were set to<br/>undergo circumcision. The study utilized a randomized controlled trial design, in<br/>which participants were randomly assigned to either control or experimental group.<br/>A total of 60 male pediatric participants were selected and randomly assigned to<br/>control or experimental group. Parental consent and child assent were obtained to<br/>ensure ethical and voluntary participation. The participants were divided into two<br/>groups, with 30 children assigned to the experimental group and 30 to the control<br/>group. The experimental group received usual pre-operative care along with the<br/>audio-assisted storytelling intervention. The control group, on the other hand,<br/>received only standard management. To evaluate anxiety levels before and after<br/>circumcision, the6-Visual Facial Anxiety Scale (6-VFAS) was used as a self-report tool<br/>to interpret anxiety through facial expression cues. Results showed that although<br/>both groups experienced a reduction in anxiety after the procedure, the decrease was<br/>greater and more consistent among those who received the audio-assisted<br/>storytelling. Participants in the control group showed only a minimal decrease, with<br/>some still exhibiting moderate distress, while those in the experimental group<br/>demonstrated a noticeable and significant reduction. These findings suggest that<br/>incorporating audio-assisted storytelling into routine care is more effective in<br/>reducing post-operative anxiety among pediatric patients undergoing circumcision.<br/>Keywords: Audio-assisted guided imagery, storytelling, pediatric circumcision |
