This study examined the relationship between nurses'demographic profile and perceptions in the use of electronic Kardex (E-Kardex〕system in their workflow.
Methods: Descriptive-correlational design and purposive sampling method were utilized to recruit 84 nurses in a tertiary hospital in Dumaguete City to determine their perceptions on the use of the E-Kardex system.Demographic data and the modified Health Record End User Survey by the Michigan Public Health Institute were used to collect data on the nurses' perceptions including availability of technical support, frequency of use, effect of usage, personal experience and ease of use. Ethics clearance from Foundation University was obtained.
Results: Spearman rank order and point-biserial correlations (α=0.05) revealed that the nurses' age (Rs=-0.279,p=0.010), marital status (Rpbi=-0.256,p=0.019),and tenure (Rs=-0.267,p=0.014] significantly influence their personal experiences in the use of the E-Kardex. The E-Kardex is easy to use and satisfying in terms of functionality and user-experience especially in the presence of adequate technical support.
Conclusion:These findings highlight the effectiveness of using the E-Kardex system as a beneficial tool in enhancing efficiency in tracking patient care, helping nurses identify care gaps and implementing preventive measures towards delivery of quality nursing care.
