Preface
This book is a product of many educational innovations such as the adoption andimplementation of the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST) by theDepartment of Education (DepEd) in 2017 and the adoption of outcomes-based education(OBE)in 2012.Furthermore, this is aligned with the common program outcomes of a TeacherEducation graduate which is to articulate rootedness of education in the Philippines' social,cultural, historical, psychological, and political context.
This book is composed of four distinct chapters that are anchored on CMO 74 to 80and 82, series of 2017.
The first chapter is The School as an Agent of Social Change that focuses on thesignificant literatures and theories in understanding the significant role of the school inimparting positive social transformation. The chapter includes activities that provide goodinsights and perspectives on the role of the school as an agent of social change. It allowscritical reflection on relevant practices and issues of teachers.
The second chapter is The School as an Organization that discusses the differenttheories and concepts of organization as it applies to education. It presents significantliteratures and studies that include various topicsthat may help in understanding theimportant role of an educational institution in the society. This chapter also includesactivities that help appreciate relevant topics concerning how an educational systemoperates including leadership and management theories and principles that will leadtoward achieving organizational goals and objectives. Further, this chapter allows criticalexamination and analysis of the relevance of the school as an organization in the teachingprofession.
The third chapter is The School as a Cultural Instiution that highlights the role of theschool as a cultural institution. It presents the different guiding principles and practicalstrategies in turning toxic school culture to a positive one. The chapter is composed ofnumerous learner-centered tasks that will hone students' understanding of the role ofthe school as a cultural institution. It allows the students to critically assess the commonpractices and issues in promoting positive school culture.
