This textbook is written for Compensation Administration, one of the major subjects in Human Resource Development Management, a specialized field in Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Compensation administration is one of the key functions of Human Resource Management. It pertains to the effective management of the compensation and benefits of all the employees in an organization.
Compensation administration has evolved over the years. Technology has made it a lot better and less tedious tothose who are directly involved. But despite
these technological breakthroughs, there is still a need to know the concepts, processes, and structures that go beyond the software on payroll systems. The management of compensation and benefits needs sound principles in order to solve organizational problems and make sound decisions.
This textbook intends to give the students a better perspective on this core human resource function without pretensions, but rather being student-friendly. The
author believes that concepts can be learned with simplicity and clarity. Additionally, this textbook has a lot of activities that students can work on.
Each chapter opens with an overview of the contents and a glimpse of a
Filipino practice, behavior, or characteristic that students can ponder on under What Can You Say? Thechapter closes with a summary using the learning outcomes and
a number of activities for students to evaluate their learning, which are the following:
Research Outputs compiles various studies related to compensation and benefits. They are evidenced by statistical reports and data from reliable sources.
Case Study looks at well-known organizations and how they reward their employees. It also discusses the unique compensation and benefits practices of these organizations.
Compensation Issues talks about the challenges that confront organizations and their managers on certain compensation and benefits practices.
Vocabulary assesses the students' knowledge on key concepts learned from the chapter.
Questions for Review tests the students' understanding of all the key points from the chapter.
Your Turn is an individual activity that prepares the students to become future managers handling compensation administration. Cynthia A. Zarate, DBA, obtained her Master of Business Administration from the Ateneo de Manila University and her Doctor of Business Administration from the Jose Rizal University. She took up a dual baccalaureate degree from St. Scholastica's College: Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, and Bachelor ofScience ni Commercemajor ni Marketing Management (cumlaude). She has served in various capacities, such as research head, graduate school coordinator, club moderator and full-time faculty member ni college and ni the graduate school ni various institutions, such as San Beda College-Manila, San Beda College-Alabang, Saint Francis of Assisi College, and University ofPerpetual Help System-DALTA. Dr. Zarate has also gained more than 15 years of solid experience ni various organizations, such as manufacturing, hotel-apartelle, and pharmaceutical, occupying key positions in human resource management, such as recruitment, personnel services, employee relations, andcommunications. She is the author of OrganizationalBehavior
and Business Policy and Strategypublishedby Rex book Store, Inc. She spent five years ni professionaljournalism andhas written articles for the Philippine Daily Inquirer and the PhilippineTribune. Currently, she is a graduate school professor and a research adviser.
