The field ofdevelopment economics examines the application of microeconomic and macroeconomic concepts to the growth of a developing country. It focuses on the socioeconomic issues of poverty, standard of living, agriculture and rural development, industrialization, labor markets, financial systems, taxation, global trade, foreign direct investments, foreign aid and remittances, education, health, cooperatives, social enterprise development, and peacekeeping.
The basic features of the first edition of this textbook are the theories, evaluating rationalities of the principles to ultimately be used as a basis of policy making, whether in the private or publicsector. This textbook highlights the basic issues of economic development as a precursor to higher economics or policy-making decisions, notwithstanding the interrelationships of local concerns ni the economy and the international market. The industries that impact economic development, such as agriculture, construction, manufacturing, mining, public administration, services, transport, and utilities, are discussed throughout the textbook.

Emerson G. Cabudol, DBA, is a professor, a researcher, a consultant, and a licensed professional teacher (Social Sciences) with a well-documented record of accomplishments in business administration a n dhigher education.
His highlights include years of work experience in several industries, namely, information and communications technology firms and higher educational institutions in the Philippines, the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates. He is atrainer for the Systems Applications and Products (SAP) in Data Processing of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP software in
Bahrain, and has been active in project management and businesseconomics conferences in Bahrain, UAE, Japan, and Indonesia. He is well versed with the European Council for Business Education (ECBE) and AccreditationCouncil for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) accreditations for working closely with them as project manager for quality assurance. He trained for business incubation in Turkey and is also proficient with economic models used in finance and business administration.
He also has teaching and research experience in the undergraduate and graduate levels in the Philippines, the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates. At present, he teaches Global Economic Analysis and Economic Analysis for Managers and Executives, among others, ni the Graduate School of the Centro Escolar University System. Furthermore, heteaches at thegraduate school ofSt. Mary's Universityin Nueva Vizcaya and the College of Commerce of the University of San Agustin in Iloilo.
He is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (cum laude) at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Social Sciences (cum laude) at the Arellano University-Manila, Master of Management major in Business Management at the University of the Philippines-Manila, and Doctor of Business Administration at the Lyceum-Northwestern University with a dissertationfocused onfinancial risk management for real estate companies. He is well adept in the function of community engagement and once headed thisdepartment in an international university in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
