It identifies the factors affecting employees’ ability to balance personal and professional responsibilities and analyzes how these influence their motivation and performance in public service.
Abstract
This study examines the work-life balance and motivation levels of public
servants in the Municipality of Lazi, focusing on three key aspects: the extent of work-
life balance, the level of motivation, and the relationship between these factors and
the profile of public servants. The respondents in the study comprised of 80
permanent public servants from various departments and offices of the Local
Government Units (LGUs) in Lazi, as well as national government agencies like
Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP). This study
employed a descriptive-correlational approach to delineate (a) the extent of work-life
balance and (b) the extent of motivation among public servants; and it tool a
correlational nature as it established relationships between the following variables:
(a) the extent of work-life balance and the extent of motivation of the public servants,
and (b) the profile and work-life balance of the public servants. Findings indicate a
moderate level of work-life balance among public servants, with work personal life
enhancement being particularly pronounced. Moreover, public servants exhibit high
levels of both extrinsic and intrinsic motivation. Regression analysis reveals that
work personal life enhancement significantly predicts both extrinsic and intrinsic
motivation. Additionally, the profile variable of length of service emerges as a
significant predictor of work-life balance in terms of work interference with personal
life. However, profile variables do not significantly predict work-life balance
concerning personal life interference with work or work personal life enhancement.
