Abstract
The study aimed to determine the reproductive health seeking
behaviours of Foundation University college graduating students for the
academic year 2008-2009. One hundred ninety-eight respondents were chosen
randomly and the primary instrument used in the study was a self-administered
questionnaire. The statistical tools utilized to get the desired results were
percentage, weighted mean, t-test and chi-square.
The result revealed that majority of the respondents were female, single,
Catholic and came from urban places. They rarely experienced reproductive
health problems, although the common but rare problems cited were rashes in
the male and female genitalia. The respondents rarely took action on the
identifed problems. However, they were motivated by factors such as the desire
to stay healthy and the fear of having AIDS. There is stilla little stigma attached
to reproductive health problems but most of them were moderately aware of the
existing reproductive health issues like Premarital Sex and Unplanned Pregnancy. In testing for the significant difference between the respondents
awareness on the common health issues when they are grouped according to
gender, marital status, religion and place of origin, the study revealed that there
was no Significant difference between their perceptions on the said issues based
on said socio-demographic profile. However, there was a significant relationship
between the respondent awareness on the common health issues and the
reproductive health problems they experienced.
