This study attempts to assess the mangal community in Tambacan, Sta.
Catalina. It focuses on the diversity and the abundance of the mangrove species
of Tambacan. The area of the study was divided into 10 stations and each
station comprises 4 quadrants. The station was then examined to determine
mangrove diversity.
The statistical tools used in the study were percentage, graph, and indices
(Shannon Wiener Index, Species Evenness index, and Species Richness index).
The study showed that Tambacan has a total of 10 mangrove species
based on a population count of 1, 409 trees. Station-3 was the most diverse
station and station-9 was the least diverse station.
The study recommended that the people living near the area should
protect the mangal community. Furthermore, the LGU of Sta. Catalina should
prohibit people from converting the areas into residential places. It is
recommended that a follow-up study should focus on the factors that affect the
distribution of mangrove species in Tambacan.
