Apla-on<br/>4 th Year, BS Biology Student<br/>Year level:<br/>September, 2005<br/>Date of Completion:<br/>This study attempts to assess the mangal community in Tambacan, Sta.<br/>Catalina. It focuses on the diversity and the abundance of the mangrove species<br/>of Tambacan. The area of the study was divided into 10 stations and each<br/>station comprises 4 quadrants. The station was then examined to determine<br/>mangrove diversity.<br/>The statistical tools used in the study were percentage, graph, and indices<br/>(Shannon Wiener Index, Species Evenness index, and Species Richness index).<br/>The study showed that Tambacan has a total of 10 mangrove species<br/>based on a population count of 1, 409 trees. Station-3 was the most diverse<br/>station and station-9 was the least diverse station.<br/>The study recommended that the people living near the area should<br/>protect the mangal community. Furthermore, the LGU of Sta. Catalina should<br/>prohibit people from converting the areas into residential places. It is<br/>recommended that a follow-up study should focus on the factors that affect the<br/>distribution of mangrove species in Tambacan.
