This study aimed to design and implement an agricultural extension program focused on ecological waste awareness, vermicomposting, and urban gardening for residents of the Core Shelter in Barangay Bajumpandan, Dumaguete City. Specifically, it sought to assess the participants’ level of awareness and practices related to waste management and urban agriculture before and after the intervention. The program included training sessions, demonstrations, and hands-on activities on waste segregation, composting using earthworms, and vegetable production in limited spaces. Data were collected through surveys, interviews, and observation. Results indicated an improvement in participants’ knowledge and adoption of sustainable practices, particularly in proper waste disposal and small-scale food production. The study concludes that community-based agricultural extension programs are effective in promoting environmental awareness and sustainable livelihood practices among urban households.
