Abstract, Summary, etc. | Maternal mortality rate in 2020 among low-and lower-middle-income nations is almost95% The high mortality rates are related to complications like severe bleeding,infections,andpre-eclampsia In the Philippines, there are 78 pregnancy-related deaths per 100,000 live births, emphasizing the need for competent skills in maternity care(World Health Organization,2023).Traditional teaching techniques often result in a gap between learning and practical application, therefore transformative approaches to healthcare education in addressing maternal healthconcerns in the Philippines have been emphasized. This study aims to evaluate the effectivenessof simulation-based training on the clinical competence and confidence of nursing students in thecare of patients with pre-eclampsia. A total of 60 student nurses were recruited to participate inthe study;30 in the control group and 30 in the treatment (simulation-based training) group.Anonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design was utilized to measure the clinicalcompetence and self-confidence among the sudent nurses.Wilcoxon signed-rank test revealed astatistically significant median increase in the clinical competence after simulation-based trainingin terms of nursing care (p=0.030) and medical and technical care (p=0.013). Mann-Whitney Utest further revealed a significant difference in the self-confidence between the treatment andcontrol groups (p=0.001). Simulation-based training is an effective method for enhancing thepreparedness of student nurses caring for patients with pre-eclampsia, recommending its adoptionin nursing curricula to improve student's clinical competence and self-confidence.<br/>Keywords:Simulation-based Training,Clinical Competence,Confidence,Student Nurses |
