A graduate descriptive-correlational thesis aimed to find out the new teachers' academic preparation and its relationship to their competency-based level on the national Competency-based Teacher Standard in the Second Congressional District of the Division of Negros Oriental during the school year 2011-2012. It concluded that the more academically prepared the new teachers are, the more competent they become.
