ABSTRACT
This study analyses the internal and external factors affecting university student's
intention on choosing to be entrepreneurs. With the high rate of unemployment in the
Philippines, understanding what drives a student to become an entrepreneur is crucial.
This study examines various variables that contribute to entrepreneurship intention of
university students. In the survey questionnaire, students are asked to indicate their level
of agreement with the statements using a 5-point Likert scale. There were 392 students
surveyed from Foundation University, Silliman University, Saint Paul University
Dumaguete, and Negros 0riental State University. The study showed that entrepreneurial
education is a strong internal factor in strengthening intention while family support is a
necessary external factor that can influence entrepreneurial intention. A regression was
then executed to determine whether there are significant relationships between the
internal and external factors toward entrepreneurial intention. The study will help policy
makers, academic institution, and teachers, among others understand the behavior of
students so as to create and implement favorable policies, curriculum initiation and module
implementation to encourage entrepreneurial activities within the rural and urban areas in
the country.
